President of the Republic of Poland 1995 – 2005

Aleksander Kwaśniewski is the former President of the Republic of Poland (1995 – 2005). He was born on the 15th November 1954, in Białogard, Poland. He participated in the famous “Round-Table” negotiations in Poland that finally brought the peaceful transformation of Poland from communism to democracy. A co-founding member and first chairman of the Social Democratic Party of the Republic of Poland. He won the presidential elections for the first time in 1995.

Co-author of the new democratic Constitution of Poland, which he signed into law on July 16th, 1997. It was under his leadership that Poland finally joined NATO in 1999. He is an active supporter of further alliance enlargement under the “open door” policy. A strong proponent of European integration, Kwaśniewski campaigned for approval of the European Union accession treaty in 2003, and saw Poland become a member on May 1, 2004.

Mr. Igor Chalupec, (1966) – manager, financier. Presently he is the CEO of ICENTIS Corporate Solutions specialized in advisory services on merges and acquisition, debt financing and the CEO of ICENTIS Capital specialized in private equity transactions.

Between 2004 and 2007 he was the CEO of PKN ORLEN SA, Central Europe’s largest company operating in the refinery and petrochemical sector. Between 2003 and 2004 he held a position of Deputy Finance Minister and Deputy Chairman of Financial Services Authorities of Poland and Member of the Financial Services Committee in Brussel. He was in charge i.a. of Poland’s EU accession talks on behalf of the Finance Ministry. Between 1995 and 2003 he was a Vice President of the Management Board of Bank Pekao SA (UniCredit Group). He was responsible, among other duities, for corporate and investment banking. Mr. Chalupec was actively involved in the rebuilding of the capital markets in Poland after political transformation in 1989. He was a Founder and CEO of CDM Pekao Brokerage in Poland (1991 – 1995), the largest brokerage company in Poland and the long-time Member of Warsaw Stock Exchange (1995-2003). Mr Igor Chalupec is a member of company supervisory boards in: RUCH SA (2010-present) – Chairman of the Supervisory Board, Bank Handlowy SA (Citigroup) (2009-present), Budimex SA (Ferrovial Agroman Group) (2007-present) and in the past i.a. PZU Życie SA (2008–2010), Unipetrol (2005-2007) and Pekao Pension Fund Company (2000–2003). He is also a Member of the Polish Business Roundtable, Economic Forum Programme Council (Economic Forum in Poland at Krynica), Member of the Executive Club’s Programme Council, Member of the Board of the Institute of Public Affairs Foundation, Member of the Founder Board of Polish Institute of Directors, Member of the Chamber of Lesław A. Paga Prize, Vice President of the Board of Polish Contract Bridge Association, Member of the Board of the “Women’s Atelier” Foundation, Founder and the Chairman of the Board of Foundation “Evangelical Educational Association”. Co-author of “Russia, oil, politics or the largest investment of PKN ORLEN”, book about the acquisition of shares in Mazeikiu refinery. Mr. Igor Chalupec is a winner of many awards and honors including: Manager Awards winner (2012), Lesław A. Paga Prize winner (2007), WEKTOR Prize winner (2006), HERMES Prize winner (1996).

Graduated from the University of Gdańsk (major: International Trade) and completed a one-year program in international banking and finance at the Loughborough University in the UK. He has over 20 years of experience in corporate banking. In 1993–1995 he worked for IBP Bank S.A. (BRE Bank was one of its shareholders), then for ABN AMRO Bank in Poland, Romania and in the headquarters in Amsterdam.

In 2002-2006 he was the Managing Director of Large Corporates Division in BPH Bank. From May to November 2006 – Chief Executive Officer and General Director of Calyon Bank Polska and Calyon S.A. Branch in Poland. In November 2006 he took the position of Vice-President of the Management Board in BPH Bank, responsible for corporate banking and real estate financing. As a result of the merger of part of BPH Bank and Pekao S.A. – Vice President of the Board, responsible for Corporate Banking, Markets and Investment Banking in Division of Pekao S.A. Member of the Management Board of BRE Bank since November, 2008.

Jacek Korpała has been with ARX Equity Partners (formerly DBG Eastern Europe) since April 1998. ARX has offices in Warsaw, Prague, Budapest i Bucharest and manages private equity funds investing in midsize companies in Central Eastern Europe (www.arxequity.com). In medical sector ARX invested in Poland in Lexummedica (www.lexummedica.pl).

He is co-managing partner responsible for ARX investments in Poland and the Baltic States. Mr. Korpała represents the funds managed by ARX on the boards of portfolio companies.

Prior to his work for ARX Mr. Korpala was partner with Arthur Andersen managing its corporate finance practice in Poland and earlier was responsible for privatization of large state-owned companies at the Polish government.

He was member of EVCA Board representing Poland for few years and earlier for two years vice president of the board of PPEA.

Michał Szwarc has over 18 years experience in the investment banking across the CEE region. He is an expert in mergers & acquisitions, capital markets, debt markets and strategic advisory. Michal Szwarc was appointed J.P. Morgan’s Head of Polish Investment Banking in September 2011. Prior to his current position, he worked for 12 years for Credit Suisse, since 2006 as Head of Credit Suisse Investment Banking in Poland.
