Private Equity in Poland as the effective driver of innovation and economic development –  summary of the VI edition of the ”Private Equity Forum & Awards Gala” conference.
On June 8th 2015 took place the sixth edition of the conference organized by the Executive Club under the patronage of the Polish Private Equity Association, which was attended by representatives of key stakeholders from the Polish capital market. This year the debate was devoted to the role of innovation used by the PE in shaping the economy.
The conference was inaugurated by speech of Janusz Lewandowski, the Chairman of the Economic Council to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland. In his speech Lewandowski presented the current macroeconomic situation, which in the highest degree determines the situation in the Private Equity sector. Janusz Lewandowski drew attention to the role of risk factors affecting the development of the economy. He stressed that the main risk factors are now economic problems, as it was in 2008-2013, but the growing tension in the geopolitical sphere. Polish strategic location allows to treat our country as particularly vulnerable to the consequences of any political tensions. In the face of these risks, the role of the dynamic development of economy becomes invaluable. Drivers of this development are clear – they are all innovations.

‘’I do not recall any company which doesn’t have innovation (…). I invest in companies that have innovations, because it is obvious that they will be more competitive on the market”- said  participating in a panel discussion ‘’Private Equitypayu– an effective engine of innovation” Marek Prończuk, Managing Partner, member of the Board of Directors of Enterprise Investors Corporation and Member of the Supervisory Boards of several companies from the portfolio of Enterprise Investors (EI). Private Equity can be seen as a particularly effective engine of innovation in the economy, because it is the raison d’être for the most innovative projects. Thus said, PE drives people and companies with ideas for business, because bank financing is often unavailable at the initial stage of the development of companies. In the process of co-operation of start-ups with Private Equity takes place mutual transfer of knowledge and know-how. Funds contribute to developing companies many years of experience and capital, and start-ups give a fresh approach to business. ‘’It is important not to stop at one innovation, constantly flooding the market because of new projects’’– said Monika Żochowska, CEO and co-founder of Phenicoptere Sp.
