Prof. Andrzej Kowalski, PhD, DSc lectured at the Central School of Planning and Statistics/Warsaw School of Economics from 1974 until his retirement, where he was the long-time head of the Department of Agribusiness. He also served as Vice-Director of the Institute of the Functioning of the National Economy.

From 2000 to 2019, he served as Director of the Institute of Agricultural and Food Economics (National Research Institute).

From 2004 to 2006, he served as Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

He has supervised numerous master’s, postgraduate, and doctoral theses. He has authored over 400 scientific and popular science papers on agricultural policy, market analyses, and more, published in Poland and abroad.

He has authored dozens of expert opinions prepared for the Parliament, Local Government Organizations, and Industry Associations. He has appeared as an expert three times at meetings of the European Parliament’s Committee on Agriculture.

He has served, among others, as Member of: the Scientific Council of the College of Business Administration, Warsaw School of Economics; the Scientific Council of the Polish IIASA Cooperation Team; the Scientific Council of the Institute of Rural and Agricultural Development, Polish Academy of Sciences; the Scientific Council of the Institute of Prices, Market, Consumption and Business Cycles, Committee on Agricultural Economics, Polish Academy of Sciences; and the Committee on Economic Sciences, Polish Academy of Sciences.

He is a foreign member of the Ukrainian Academy of Agricultural Sciences. He has been awarded an honorary doctorate from the Ecological Institute of the Ukrainian Academy of Agricultural Sciences and an Honorary Professorship from the Institute of Agricultural Economics, Bulgarian Agricultural Academy.

He actively collaborates with numerous social and professional organizations. He was an advisor to the Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development.

He was chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Strzegom Stud Farm and a member of the Supervisory Board of the Bronisze Horticultural Works.

He has received numerous awards for his professional and social activities. Awarded with the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta and the Bronze Cross of Merit, as well as many honorary distinctions and badges from institutions, local government organizations and industry associations.
