Panel 1: Challenges for Modern Agriculture
I was born on August 2, 1954 in Seroczyn. I have been a titular professor of economics since 2002. My achievements consist of more than 300 scientific publications, including 20 book publications. I have promoted about 2,000 master’s and bachelor’s degrees and 19 PhDs. In my scientific and teaching work, I deal with issues:
- Public finance
- Corporate finance
- Social and economic insurances
- Agricultural policy and agricultural economics
From 1993 to 2005, I served as Vice-Dean and Dean of the Faculty (currently Economics) at University of Life Sciences and from 2019 to 2022 as Director of the Institute of Agricultural and Food Economics – National Research Institute. For another term, I am a member of the Committee on Economic Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences, a member of the Council on Agriculture and Rural Affairs to the President of the Republic of Poland, and a member and former president of the Association of Agricultural and Agribusiness Economists.
Appointed Deputy President of the Agency for Restructuring and Modernization of Agriculture in October 2024. He holds a postdoctoral degree in agricultural, forestry, and veterinary sciences and a doctorate in agricultural sciences in agronomy. He has over 25 years of experience implementing modern techniques and technologies in precision and smart agriculture.
Tomasz Piotrowski – PhD in Agricultural Sciences, graduate of the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, specializing in fertilization, crop production, and environmental protection. For over 20 years, he has been involved in the agri-food and agrotechnical sectors, combining scientific expertise with business practice. He has worked as a Product Manager at Agrosimex and Schmith Polska, responsible for developing fertilizer portfolios, implementing innovative solutions, conducting training, and cooperating with research institutions. Author and co-author of numerous scientific and industry publications, he has actively participated in national and international conferences. He has co-led research and implementation projects, including work at the Polish Academy of Sciences under EIT Food. Recognized for his ability to bridge academic knowledge with market needs, his effectiveness in implementing innovations, and his skill in building relationships with clients and business partners. A passionate advocate of ecology, food chemistry, and modern agricultural technologies.
Wojciech Michał Pysiak was born on July 22, 1968, the son of Marianna and Stanisław Pysiak.
The family farm has always focused on plant and animal production, as well as the production of traditional farm products. In 2002, Wojciech and his wife Elżbieta built a modern, closed-cycle, litter-free pigsty for 60 sows, and together they run a 240-hectare farm.
In 2006, they modernized the outbuildings and opened a backyard butcher shop,
where all the products produced from their own livestock production are sold in their shops. Initially, sales were conducted as farmers, but in 2014, the business was established under the name of Pysiaków Agricultural Farm Sp. z o.o., where they are the sole proxy. In 2008, for their lifetime achievements in agriculture, Elżbieta and Wojciech won the title of Polish Champion in the Farmer category at the national Agroliga competition, where he has been a member and chairman of the jury since 2010. Wojciech is also vice president of the AgroBiznesKlub. For many years, the family has actively participated in the Agroliga competition galas at the Presidential Palace and the Presidential Harvest Festival, where they present their products.
Master of Science in Engineering, Horticulture. A practitioner and enthusiast of fruit growing and all things related to it. He is the fourth generation of fruit growers in his family. He has won numerous prestigious awards in the agriculture and horticulture sectors. In his work, he focuses on innovation and digitalization, which make daily work in the orchard more enjoyable and easier.
Panel 2: Polish Food Economy
Prof. Andrzej Kowalski, PhD, DSc lectured at the Central School of Planning and Statistics/Warsaw School of Economics from 1974 until his retirement, where he was the long-time head of the Department of Agribusiness. He also served as Vice-Director of the Institute of the Functioning of the National Economy.
From 2000 to 2019, he served as Director of the Institute of Agricultural and Food Economics (National Research Institute).
From 2004 to 2006, he served as Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
He has supervised numerous master’s, postgraduate, and doctoral theses. He has authored over 400 scientific and popular science papers on agricultural policy, market analyses, and more, published in Poland and abroad.
He has authored dozens of expert opinions prepared for the Parliament, Local Government Organizations, and Industry Associations. He has appeared as an expert three times at meetings of the European Parliament’s Committee on Agriculture.
He has served, among others, as Member of: the Scientific Council of the College of Business Administration, Warsaw School of Economics; the Scientific Council of the Polish IIASA Cooperation Team; the Scientific Council of the Institute of Rural and Agricultural Development, Polish Academy of Sciences; the Scientific Council of the Institute of Prices, Market, Consumption and Business Cycles, Committee on Agricultural Economics, Polish Academy of Sciences; and the Committee on Economic Sciences, Polish Academy of Sciences.
He is a foreign member of the Ukrainian Academy of Agricultural Sciences. He has been awarded an honorary doctorate from the Ecological Institute of the Ukrainian Academy of Agricultural Sciences and an Honorary Professorship from the Institute of Agricultural Economics, Bulgarian Agricultural Academy.
He actively collaborates with numerous social and professional organizations. He was an advisor to the Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development.
He was chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Strzegom Stud Farm and a member of the Supervisory Board of the Bronisze Horticultural Works.
He has received numerous awards for his professional and social activities. Awarded with the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta and the Bronze Cross of Merit, as well as many honorary distinctions and badges from institutions, local government organizations and industry associations.
Michał Benet, a graduate of the Faculty of Animal Science and the Faculty of Agricultural Economics in the field of EU Funds Acquisition in Agriculture at the Lublin Agricultural Academy. From the beginning of his professional career, he has been involved in agri-food processing, and for the past 15 years he has been working in dairy processing as a nutrition advisor.
Graduate of Economics from the University of Gdańsk
He has been involved in the potato industry for 31 years, the first 26 since establishing operations in Poland, in various positions at Farm Frites Poland SA in Lębork.
Since 2020, he has served as President of the Management Board of Polski Ziemniak sp. z o.o., plant in Potęgowo, where he has managed and expanded the plant since its inception.
1995 – Studies at the Faculty of Animal Science, University of Agriculture and Technology in Olsztyn (currently UWM), postgraduate studies in pedagogy.
